Essentials Creative is a collaborative group of applied artists who come together to work on art installations and special projects, producing multi-media experiences. For Luminaria Contemporay Arts Festival, Essentials Creative presented Biochromatic, which experimented with light, colour, and transparency.
Inspired by animals, plants, and minerals that have incredible hues that lie beyond human vision, Essentials Creative playfully and poetically interrogates the relationships between humans and the non-human. Multiple media, including photography, specialty print techniques, projection, and installation, were explored. Relationships between humans and non-humans were investigated, especially relating to visual perception, the ultra violet spectrum, and infrared spectrum. The lighting design changed colours throughout the exhibition, continually transforming the artwork. Custom music and fragrance were also applied to round out the experience. Biochromatic was exhibited in the Mexican Cultural Institute gallery in San Antonio.
