Oddwood Ales is a brewing project focused on American-style wild ales based out of Austin. It pays homage to European tradition while embracing America's pioneering spirit. They are brewed with unique yeast blends, fermented and aged in oak barrels, and bottle conditioned to create rustic beers with exceptional character.

Zavala was approached to illustrate the logo icon and artwork for the identity's label, promotional material, and collateral. The brief for the illustrations was informed by a reference to the American west, rustic nature, and surreal characters that help differentiate the brand. Expansive imagery of the outdoors with a pioneering cowboy and a bear companion were executed in a woodcut print style. A playful narrative of prospect and exploring new landscapes unfolds throughout the illustrations. The award-winning identity, with Art Direction and design by Thuy Pham, applies a spirited approach to a traditional American technique and subject, much like the ales themselves.
